What to Expect from a School or Sports Physical at FirstCare

At FirstCare Urgent Care Center, we understand how busy life can get—especially for parents juggling school paperwork, sports sign-ups, and healthcare visits. That’s why we’ve made it our mission to provide quick, convenient, and comprehensive school physicals and sports exams in Oak Lawn, IL and surrounding communities including Burbank, Evergreen Park, Hometown, and Bedford Park.

School districts and athletic organizations throughout Illinois require annual physicals to ensure students are physically able to participate in classes and extracurricular activities safely. These requirements help detect any underlying health conditions that may need attention and offer an opportunity to monitor developmental milestones. At FirstCare, we provide these physicals on a walk-in or same-day basis with no long wait times—so your child doesn’t miss a deadline, a practice, or a game.

When you bring your child in for a school or sports physical, we begin with a thorough review of their medical history, including past illnesses, surgeries, medications, allergies, and family health concerns. This is followed by a full physical examination that includes height and weight measurements, blood pressure and pulse check, vision screening, and evaluations of posture, joints, strength, flexibility, and cardiovascular health.

For student-athletes, we take extra care to assess risk factors related to physical exertion, such as breathing issues, dizziness during activity, prior injuries (especially concussions), and signs of overuse or stress on bones and joints. If we identify anything that requires further attention, we’ll provide referrals or recommendations to specialists and coordinate follow-up care. We’re committed to making sure your child is not only cleared for participation but set up for a healthy and successful year.

If your child needs additional documentation, vaccine updates, or health forms completed as part of the school registration process, our staff will ensure everything is filled out accurately and on time. Our team is also available to answer questions about immunization requirements or next steps if a concern arises during the visit.

Unlike primary care offices, we don’t require months-ahead appointments. Our physician-led team offers flexible hours and immediate availability, which is especially helpful for families who are new to the area, switching schools, or managing multiple children with overlapping schedules. We’re also a trusted local partner for many Oak Lawn-area schools and community programs, and we understand the forms, timelines, and procedures needed for clearance.

Our clinic is known for being clean, welcoming, and efficient. You won’t spend hours in a waiting room or feel rushed during your visit. We treat every patient with respect and take the time to explain our findings, answer parent questions, and ensure everyone leaves with a full understanding of the next steps. We also offer on-site medication dispensing and other urgent care services if needed—all under one roof.

FirstCare accepts most PPO insurance plans, and for families without coverage, we offer affordable self-pay rates to make essential care accessible for everyone. We strive to remove the financial and scheduling barriers that often delay care, because we believe every student deserves the chance to learn and play safely.

Whether you’re preparing for the upcoming school year, meeting a deadline for sports registration, or simply keeping up with annual wellness requirements, FirstCare Urgent Care Center in Oak Lawn is here to make the process smooth and stress-free. Just walk in, or book ahead using our online scheduling tool—and we’ll take care of the rest.
